Dr. Alameri joined the Uniformed Services University in September 2009 as a Military Health Scholar at the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine, where he served as a Medical Stability Operations consultant specializing in the reconstruction and stabilization of healthcare systems in post-conflict environments. His primary role has been providing advice on the development of DoD policy for health system reconstitution and the role of health in national reconciliation at the International Health Division in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.
Currently Dr Alameri is a Faculty member; Assistant Professor for the Military and Emergency Medicine department of the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences. He is a Subject Matter Expert in the Assessment of training requirements and development and testing of the curriculum for the Defense Medical Language Initiative pilot program.
Dr. Alameri BG (sel) served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the Iraqi Joint Armed Forces from 2006 to 2009. Between 2004 and 2006, he played a critical role in reconstituting the health capacities of the new Iraqi Army serving as: Director of Medical Operations and Planning; Director of Training for Military Field Hospitals; Military Recruitment Clinic Commander in Baghdad and Civil-Military Liaison Officer between the Iraqi Ministries of Defense and Health. Between 2003 and 2004, at great personal risk and sacrifice to himself and his family, Dr. Alameri worked with the Ministry of Health and Coalition Provisional Authority’s Senior Adviser Team to rehire 18,000 health providers from the disbanded Iraqi army, simultaneously serving as a unit doctor for the US 1st Armored Division to medically certify new Iraqi recruits to the newly Facilities Protection Forces. His work with the coalition forces to resuscitate and stabilize the Iraqi military health system reduced the impact the damage caused by the invasion and saved thousands of non-combatant lives.
Before 2003, Dr. Alameri served with distinction for 17 years as a military medical officer in all of Iraq’s military engagements and at every level of command from Battalion Medical Officer to Division Surgeon. Dr Alameri was born and raised in Iraq /Baghdad and graduated from Al Almustansiryah medical school 1987; he is a certified general surgeon and had the total experience of 23 years of serving in the Military, Ministry of Health and Private sectors of Health in Iraq.
